Day 1: Why I'm Doing This in Public
The honest answer is that doing it privately hasn't worked. I've started and stopped more times than I can count. So this time, I'm making it harder to quit by making it visible.
365 Days to Become a Gladiator
I'm Luca Mayes — a traveller, tourism graduate and creator publicly rebuilding my confidence, health, finances and future. I don't have everything figured out. This is the honest story of taking action anyway.
The Journey
Confidence, clarity, presence — and learning to act before I feel ready. Anxiety about embarrassment and fear of failure have cost me opportunities. That changes here.
Staying free, becoming debt-free, rebuilding independence. One honest day at a time. This is the part I'm most nervous to talk about — which is exactly why I'm talking about it.
Fitness, surfing, football, new skills, and whatever physical challenge excites me. The body is the first arena you enter every morning.
Travel, Italian, new cultures, sport communities and the people who make everywhere feel like somewhere. The world is the classroom I actually learn in.
Content, storytelling, hospitality ideas and the career I'm building in public. I don't have a plan that's finished. I have a direction and the willingness to figure it out.
Day 1 of 365
"The arena isn't a place. It's the moment you decide to show up anyway."
365 Days to Become a Gladiator isn't about becoming invincible. It's about choosing action over avoidance — every single day — and documenting what actually happens when you do. The courage isn't in never feeling fear. It's in entering anyway.
From the Journal
The honest answer is that doing it privately hasn't worked. I've started and stopped more times than I can count. So this time, I'm making it harder to quit by making it visible.
Nine months at a five-star resort in Koh Samui. The things I learned about hospitality, people and myself couldn't have come from a lecture theatre.
Perfectionism dressed up as high standards. I've been waiting to be ready for years. Turns out ready is a feeling that never quite arrives.

Nine months at a five-star Accor resort in Thailand — working across food and beverage, events, sports, entertainment and guest experiences. Now in Florida, gaining more. Always learning, always moving.
Ideas in Development
These aren't businesses yet. They're ideas I'm developing, researching and thinking about in public — because the best way to build something real is to start talking about it honestly.
A sustainable accommodation and experience concept inspired by Italy's Albergo Diffuso model — using existing historic buildings to support local architecture, food, crafts, traditions and community regeneration.
A Mediterranean-inspired beach, social and sports club combining hospitality, padel, football, running, fitness, watersports, music, events and environmental initiatives.
Purposeful travel experiences connecting people with family heritage, local history and independent communities — tourism that means something beyond the itinerary.
